The Pantheons of Ancient Greece and the Norselands, were dependent upon belief. The prayer, worship and sacrifices of the mortals of their realm. So when that belief began to falter, so did the Gods and Goddesses of Mount Olympus and Asgard. The peoples of their realms either by choice or by force began to believe in a new God. A God who was spreading out of his realm and into the realms of others. He, his son and his army of angels over powering all.
Fearful of death, a death they thought they would never have to face, the Olympians and the Æsir pooled their power, using their last remaining strength to ensure that although they would die, they would be reincarnated into the bodies of mortals. Though this would severely dilute their powers and have them constantly reincarnating through time until they could find a way to regain their full strength.
Unknown to both pantheon's even their own powers were beyond their control. There is a quest that must be completed, in order for them to regain their full strength and be able to take back their realms. No God has yet discovered it's existence much less what it is.
If the few gods instrumental in completing the quest are to die prematurely, one by one the other gods will follow until they must all start again.
Gods angels, however, know about the quest. In fact, they are of the opinion that God is the reason for the quest in the first place. And a select few have made it their mission to prevent the Olympians and the Æsir regain their strength. Because if the two pantheon's were to work together... heaven would be in trouble.

Olympians can only be reincarnated into Greek descendants and Æsir only into Norse descendants. Reborn, the gods lack abilities or any knowledge of who or what they are until they turn 21. On their 21st birthday they receive their abilities, but unless they have family to explain to them what they are, they will have no knowledge of it. In order to figure out which god has been reborn, their abilities are monitored until it is made clear who they are. Though often times an oracle god is sought to confirm or clear up confusion.
A god must have two gods for parents. A god and a mortal will produce a mortal. It is unknown what will happen if a greek god and a norse god were to have a child as it has never happened before.
